The Council's Response

We have a target for Ribble Valley Brough Council to be carbon-neutral borough council by 2030 and we are working to reduce our carbon footprint year on year.

What are we doing to tackle climate change?

We have established a cross-party climate change working group to investigate ways the local authority can take and promote action to cut its carbon footprint and to adopt more environmentally-friendly ways of working.

We have developed a Climate Change Strategy which incorporates an action plan to help us to achieve our carbon reduction targets.

The council has already taken a number of steps to reduce its carbon emmissions and to encourage others to do the same.  Some of the actions we have taken so far are listed in the Climate Change Strategy.

Our current Climate Change Strategy

Our overall vision is that by 2030 we will be a carbon-neutral borough council. The council's own operations will be clean and efficient, and we will play a positive role enabling the wider district to achieve net-zero emissions.

To deliver this objective we are focusing on:

  • The Council as an organisation
  • The Council as a service provider
  • The Council as a community leader

We have produced a climate change action plan and will regularly review this to tackle our priorities.

The main themes of the plan are:

  • Achieve carbon neutrality in our buildings
  • Reduce, reuse and recycle
  • Reduce carbon emissions from business travel and transport
  • Sustainable procurement
  • Protect the environment
  • Save energy
  • Water management
  • Work with partners, businesses and residents on climate change initiatives

We will report our own emissions every year.

Our latest carbon footprint report.

We urge all Ribble Valley residents and businesses to join us on the mission to tackle climate change.
