Busking Licences
Busking
Busking in itself is not illegal, although many local authorities have passed byelaws prohibiting busking. If you want to busk it is worth contacting your local council to see if any byelaws have been passed and whether they have any rules you must observe, such as:
- not making too much noise
- not blocking public highways (footpaths, pavements, open pedestrian areas)
- not displaying notices asking for payment
- not carrying out street trading (you need a street trading licence for this)
- only busking in certain parts of the town or for a limited period of time
Ribble Valley Borough Council don’t have any Byelaws prohibiting busking therefore no licence is required from us.
It is the decision of the person who wants to busk whether they inform the police and is not a requirement.
Children under 14 years may not busk.
