Don’t Lose Your Vote – Check and Confirm Your Annual Canvass Form
Residents across the Ribble Valley are being urged to keep a look out for the annual canvass form currently being distributed across the borough.
The annual canvass allows the borough council to keep the electoral registers up to date – and you must be on the register to be able to vote in local, county and general elections, as well as other polls, and have a say on local and national decisions.
Residents who have signed up to receiving the form by email have already started to receive it electronically. Paper forms will be delivered to all other households from 9 September.
Council electoral and licencing officer Jane Horsfield said: “It’s important that people check the form to make sure the details are correct, or change them if necessary, so they don’t lose their right to vote. Either way they need to confirm the details of all the adults living at the address.
“Don’t assume that because you’ve lived at the same address for some time, or that you pay council tax, that you don’t have to do anything. We still need you to confirm that the details on the form are correct, or if there’s been any changes.”
Electoral Commission research found that recent people who have recently moved home are less likely to be registered than those that have lived at the same address for a long time.
