Don’t Lose Your Vote – Check and Confirm Your Annual Canvass Form

Residents across the Ribble Valley are being urged to keep a look out for the annual canvass form currently being distributed across the borough.
The annual canvass allows Ribble Valley Borough Council to keep the electoral registers up to date – and you must be on the register to be able to vote in local, county and general elections, as well as other polls, and have a say on local and national decisions.
Residents who have signed up to receiving the form by email should receive a communication around the same time as the paper forms are delivered, from 4th September.
Electoral and licencing officer Jane Horsfield said:
“It’s important that people check the form to make sure the details are correct, or change them if necessary, so they don’t lose their right to vote.
“Either way they need to confirm the details of all the adults living at the address. Do not assume that because you’ve lived at the same address for some time, or that you pay council tax, that you don’t have to do anything. We still need you to confirm that the details on the form are correct, or if there’s been any changes.”
Please also note that postal voters are now required to renew their postal vote application every three years.
If you applied for a postal vote before 31st October 2023, your postal vote will expire on 31st January 2026.

Electoral Commission research found that people who have recently moved home are less likely to be registered than those that have lived at the same address for a long time.
