An exhibition of the best of British crafts by more than 30 artists is raising Christmas cheer among visitors looking for a quirky and imaginative festive present.

The annual Northern Star event at the Platform Gallery in Clitheroe is running until 10 January 2026 and features a wide range of ceramics, glass, woodwork, jewellery, metalwork and prints.

The items have all been curated by staff at the gallery, which is owned and managed by Ribble Valley Borough Council, from crafts people from across the country.

Jack Shackleton, of the gallery’s supervisors, said:

“We’ve scoured the country’s trade exhibitions to pick out the best of the best for the Northern Star event.

“It’s an ideal opportunity to pick up a gift with a difference that you won’t find anywhere else.”

Gallery opening times in the run-up to Christmas will be as follows, with late night Thursday, and Sunday opening.

Sunday (from 30 Nov):11am-4pm
Monday-Wednesday:10am-4.30pm
Thursday (from 6 Dec): 10am-6pm
Friday: 10am-4.30pm
Saturday: 10am-4pm

Opening times will revert to normal when the gallery re-opens in the New Year after the festive break.

On Sunday 30 ceramics artist Jeni Poree will be holding a free drop-in workshop between noon and 3pm at the gallery to give people a chance to try their hand at producing ceramic decorations of their own.
