Clitheroe is getting ready to give His Majesty King Charles III a right Royal welcome.

His Majesty will visit locations throughout Lancashire, including Clitheroe, next Monday (February 9).

The King will be welcomed at Clitheroe Station by the Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, Mrs Amanda Parker, and civic dignitaries, including Ribble Valley Mayor Simon O’ Rourke and Ribble Valley Borough Council chief executive Sarah Threlfall.

He will then meet residents and well-wishers, before setting off to visit a number of locations in Lancashire.

Public safety measures will be in place, and the visit is expected to cause disruption to town centre traffic throughout the morning.

Road closures

Station Road/Railway View Road will be closed to traffic (between the entrance/exit to Booths supermarket and Railway View Avenue (opposite the bus station). Access to Booths will only be available via Parson Lane.

King Street will be closed between its junctions with Station Road and Back King Street.

The closures will be in place between 4am and 11am and diversions will be in place. The roads will remain open to pedestrians.

Car parks

All council-run public car parks will remain open as usual.

People parking at Chester Avenue car park and walking into town will not be able to access Railway View Road through the railway station “underpass” and will have to use Milton Avenue or Waddington Road to get to the town centre. Access to Railway View car park (behind the council offices) will remain open via Railway View Avenue.

Bus/rail stations

People should check with Network Rail/bus operators to see what alternative arrangements are in place during the visit.

His Majesty has visited Clitheroe several times over the years, most recently last June during a brief stop and more notably in 2017, when the town hosted a mini-food festival for him.

Ribble Valley Mayor Simon O’ Rourke said:

“We are delighted that His Majesty the King is dropping in to see us again.

“Clitheroe has an enduring relationship with the King, who is extremely popular among townspeople and can be assured of a warm welcome.”
