Clitheroe Town Centre Road Closures for Tour of Britain Race

The second stage of the Lloyds Tour of Britain’s women’s race will set off from outside the White Lion pub in Market Place at 11.30am on Thursday 20 August.

Temporary road closures will be in place as follows to allow the race to go ahead and for the safety of riders and spectators.

4am 

• Castle Street
• Market Place
• Wellgate
• Church Brow
• Yorke Street
• King Lane

King Street closed above New Market Street, so access to Market car park available.

9am

• Woone Lane (from Eshton Terrace)
• Moor Lane
• Parson Lane

Midday

• Woone Lane, Moor Lane and Parson Lane re-open

2pm

• All other road closures lifted

Public pay-and-display car parks in the town centre will remain open as usual.

Roads will be closed for their entire length unless otherwise stated.

The race itself will head out of town along York Street to Chatburn, Grindleton, Sawley, Bolton-by-Bowland, Tosside and Slaidburn before heading over Waddington Fell and back through Clitheroe at the bottom of Chatburn Road, and up Pendle Road, over the Nick O’Pendle, down to Sabden, through Whalley then Hurst Green and Longridge and on to the finish line on the seafront at Blackpool.

Once the race starts the police will be using a rolling road closure system to allow the riders and support vehicles to progress around the borough. This means for up to 15 minutes at any given point on the route; motorcycle outriders will hold traffic at junctions until the last vehicle in the race convoy has passed, the road then re-opens behind the race.
