‘Check Your Canvass Form’ Call to Ribble Valley Voters
Voters in Ribble Valley are advised to keep an eye out for the annual canvass form currently dropping through letterboxes.
And people who receive the form by email should likewise keep tabs on their inbox.
The annual canvass allows Ribble Valley Borough Council to keep its electoral register up to date.
You need to be on the register to vote in all forthcoming elections, including for the new unitary authority for Lancaster, Preston and Ribble Valley, which is scheduled for next May.
Research has found that people who have recently moved home are less likely to be registered than those that have lived at the same address for a long time.
The council’s electoral and licencing officer, Jane Horsfield, said:
“It’s important that people check the form to ensure their details are correct and change them if necessary.
“Don’t assume that because you have lived at the same address for some time, or pay council tax, that you don’t have to do anything.
“You still need to confirm that the details on the form are correct, or if there have been any changes.
“Checking the form only takes a couple of minutes and will ensure that you don’t lose your right to vote.”
If you vote by post, you now need to renew your postal vote application every three years.
Postal votes applications made before October 31 2024 will expire on January 31 2027.
You can renew your postal vote at gov.uk/apply-postal-vote.
