Dog Control Public Space Protection Order (PSPO)

Closing date: Sunday 19 July 2026

Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) are intended to deal with a nuisance or problem in a particular geographical area that is detrimental to the local community’s quality of life, by imposing conditions on the use of that area that apply to everyone. They are designed to ensure the law-abiding majority can use and enjoy public spaces safely.

Introduced in 2017, we currently have a Dog Control PSPO in place to tackle dog fouling and problematic dog behaviour across the borough. The Order came into effect on the 19 October 2023 and the law states that a PSPO expires after three years unless it is reviewed and extended by the council.

Therefore, we are keen to hear from the local community on whether the existing conditions of the PSPO should continue.

If, following consideration of the consultation exercise, the council approve an extension, the Order will expire on 20 October 2026 unless further extended.

The survey is completely anonymous, unless you decide to share this information with us, which we will not share with anyone else.

Ribble Valley Local Plan Scoping Consultation

Closing date: Friday 14 August 2026

This is the first stage of consultation in the preparation of a new Local Plan for the current administrative area of the Ribble Valley.

The council has a statutory duty to prepare a Local Plan and keep it updated. The existing Local Plan, referred to as the Ribble Valley Local Development Framework (LDF), was formally prepared and adopted by the council in two stages: the Core Strategy in December 2014; and the Housing and Economic Development DPD and Proposal’s Map in November 2019. Together, these documents guide planning and development in the borough up to 2028.

The council is now preparing a new single document, to be known as the Ribble Valley Local Plan. The process of preparing a new Local Plan gives us a chance to look at what’s changed locally; maintain conformity with national planning policy; and respond to new or emerging social, environmental, and economic priorities.

Our new Local Plan will be in a predominantly digital format produced within a 30-month period. It will set out the vision, objectives, and planning policies that will shape how Ribble Valley grows and changes cover a period of up to fifteen years. Addressing matters such as housing, employment, infrastructure, the natural and historic environment, and the health and wellbeing of communities.

Following publication of the formal Notice of Commencement alongside the Local Plan Timetable both of which can be viewed at Local Plan – Ribble Valley Borough Council this stage of the Local Plan preparation process invites your views on the key issues and priorities the Local Plan should address, and what it should contain. Your feedback at this stage will help shape the plan’s focus and direction from the start. We are also asking how we should engage with communities and stakeholders as we prepare the plan.

The questionnaire will take approx. 40 minutes to complete depending on how much information you want to include. It is completely anonymous, unless you decide to share this information with us, which we will not share with anyone else.
